Yes, we do speak English in New Zealand, but we do it our way.
Like other English speaking countries, New Zealand has its own version of the language. This website will introduce you to commonly used words and phrases, and others that are unique to our wonderful country.

The website is divided into three main areas - The Traveller's guide, the Grammar Project and our Writer's Database - each of which are explained in the three sections below.

There are three official languages in New Zealand, English, Māori and sign language. English is spoken throughout the country, however if you can speak English, you may still have trouble understanding us because of the way Kiwis speak.
For tourists and students of English as a second-language, The Traveller's Guide will be helpful to better understand the words and phrases Kiwis often use.
The Traveller's Guide will also give an understanding of Māori words and phrases that have become part of our English dialect and others that you will come across in our tourist sector.

It will be helpful to both children and adults who struggle with grammar and spelling.
For older New Zealanders venturing on to the internet this we be a useful site to bring you up to date with changes in writing styles - you will be glad to know we are still arguing about the split infinitive.
